Summer Reading

Summer Reading can be READING FOR FUN!

Over the summer, many children lose ground in the reading skills they’ve been building at school.  As a parent, you can make books and reading part of your child’s summer fun.  You will keep your child’s skills developing by encouraging him or her to read for fun and relaxation.

This year we are sending home this summer calendar.  We are suggesting that students read or be read to for a minimum time of 15 minutes per day on four of the seven days each week.  A parent should initial the calendar each day the 15 minute goal is met. We suggest that students meet this reading time for 10 of the 12 weeks this summer.  The initialed calendar should be returned during the first week of school to their classroom teacher.

Below you will find reading list links that offer suggestions of books you and your child might enjoy.  Our mutual goal is to have children who not only read, but who will choose to read.  Enjoy your summer and thanks in advance for your support!
