The Science Fair
An Invitation for all Students in Grades 1-4 to Participate in The Center/Sylvester School Science Fair.

Date:   April 17, 2008

Time:   6:00pm to 6:30pm, Set-up; 6:30pm to 8:30pm, Fair

Place:   Center School Cafeteria and Gymnasium

Purpose
To encourage a greater understanding and love of science through hands-on experiments. Participants will choose a topic to research, work on an invention or perform an experiment, and present results on a project board. No idea is too simple!! This is a non-competitive opportunity for students to explore in-depth a topic of interest to them, thereby encouraging greater interest in scientific research.

Project
Each participant will identify a project to present. Your project should be about a science related topic, and should answer a question. A list of possible projects is attached, but any science related idea or invention may be used. Science fair resource material is available at the Center School Library, the John Curtis Library, and on various web sites (search for: science fair projects). Interactive displays are encouraged so that students can enjoy demonstrating their projects and allowing others to try them.

Required Steps
To get started, participants should choose a science related topic, decide on a purpose of objective for the project, and determine whether they will work alone, or with a partner. Your project should try to answer a science-related question. Complete the registration form on the Hanover Schools site by March 7, 2008. Registration forms must be submitted by Friday, March 7th.

Display Guidelines
The night of the fair, participants will present their findings on a project board. Project boards and actual experiments/inventions will be displayed and demonstrated at the fair, and should not exceed four feet in width and three feet in depth, unless previously arranged with the Science Fair Coordinators. Your project should be neat and clearly presented. It should be your own work, demonstrate your ideas, and reflect your creative talents. Your project board should explain your project through pictures, diagrams, and other information you choose to include. If possible, your display should be interactive to enable students to see and understand your work.
