  Three-tiered Organizational Structure

Organizational Structure for K-12 Curriculum Plan

The major curriculum goal this year is to write K-12 Curriculum for Mathematics and to begin the process for English and Science and Technology/Engineering.  The model for the curriculum writing process is three tiered and comprised of a Curriculum Administrative Team, a Curriculum Task Force, and Curriculum Design Teams.

The Curriculum Administrative Team’s will create a vision for the Hanover Schools curriculum.  The primary role of its membership is to approve curriculum that will be moved to the School Committee for final approval of implementation.  This group of administrators receives updates on curriculum writing progress from the Curriculum Task Force and it is comprised of the Superintendent, Director of Curriculum, Instruction, and Personnel, Director of Pupil Personnel, Principals, Assistant Principals for Curriculum and the High School Assistant Principal.  The Curriculum Administrative Team will discuss curriculum at least three times per year.

The Curriculum Task Force is an administrative group that meets to identify and discuss curriculum needs. Some members serve as liaisons between the Curriculum Design Team and the Curriculum Administrative Team.  Each member’s main role is to ensure that the curriculum created gets implemented in his or her school.  Because we are on a very tight timeline to address mathematics, English and Science, Technology and Engineering, for this year, this group will be only be comprised the content area that will be addressed.  All other years, the Curriculum Task Force will include all Assistant Principals and all Department Heads.  Membership of the Curriculum Task Force includes the Director of Curriculum, Instruction, and Personnel, the Elementary Assistant Principals for Curriculum, the Middle School Assistant Principal for Curriculum, the High School Assistant Principal, and Department Head for the content area being addressed.  The Curriculum Task Force will meet at least four times per year.

The Curriculum Design Team is made up of a group of designers who are content specialists in the curricular area and they will write the curriculum by determining essential standards, benchmarks, developing pacing guides, and a scope and sequence.  Equal representation from every level is important.  Much of the curriculum design work will take place during the school day.  One parent will participate on a Curriculum Design Team for each content area.
