Cedar School Opening Day News and Updates 8/26/22

As summer vacation is winding down and many of you are beginning to think about the upcoming school year, we wanted to take this opportunity to reach out and welcome you to Cedar Elementary School. The purpose of this communication is to share information pertaining to the arrival and dismissal procedures, in addition to other important information about the start of the school year.

Arrival (8:15 am - 8:30 am)

Students should arrive on their first day of school at 8:15 am. If your child is arriving at school by car, please know that the drop-off line for kindergarten and first grade will loop around the side of the building (see photo A below). Staff will be present to support students in getting out of their vehicles and guide students to the appropriate classrooms. Once your child has been dropped off, please exit the complex while using caution, as many vehicles and buses will be entering the complex at this time. The parent or guardian will receive a sign on the first day that should be placed on the front passenger window of the vehicle. We ask that you write your child’s first and last name in large text, as well as the classroom teacher’s name so that it’s visible to staff.

If your child arrives after 8:30 am, please park in front of the school and walk your child to the main entrance to be checked in by the office staff. As a gentle reminder, adults are not permitted to accompany children to their classrooms.

Students who are transported to Cedar on a van will arrive at 8:30 am. The arrival process for students in the Integrated Preschool and Little Stars programs will be from 8:30 am - 8:45 am in the back lot area (see photo B above).

If your child is arriving at Cedar by bus, please know that we will have staff positioned accordingly so that they can greet students and guide them to their classrooms. Students will be given a bus tag on the first day of school. It is suggested that students arrive at their bus stop 5 minutes prior to the posted time. View the Cedar School Bus Routes.

Dismissal (2:50 pm - 3:10 pm)

Announcements for dismissal will start at 2:45 pm. We ask that you not arrive prior to this time to help reduce congestion in the complex. The pickup line will begin at 2:50 pm. Students should be picked up in the back of the building, similar to the arrival process in the morning. The sign should be placed in the car window so that it’s visible to staff.

We expect that all buses will be on the road by 3:10 pm.

Shout Outs

Thank you to our hard-working custodians and the Hanover Department of Public Works who have refreshed the Cedar complex this summer. The front entrance of the building looks beautiful and is ready to receive students. Also, thank you to Mrs. Gokey and Mrs. Clasby, Cedar’s Administrative Assistants, for their hard work this summer. Finally, thank you to Cedar’s extraordinary staff who have been doing so much great work to prepare for the upcoming school year.

Student Visit Information

Cedar students are invited to attend an orientation during specific designated times listed below. We are very excited to see our Cedar friends and families, but kindly ask you not to arrive early. Our start time is purposefully planned to allow us the chance to effectively transition students during the school day. The purpose of these visits is to meet your homeroom teacher, visit the classroom, and become familiar with peers in your class. Please know that you can arrive with your child at any time during the designated window that has been shared. This is not a drop-off event.
