Center School MGH Study Launch 6/21/22

We are a research team at the MGH Institute of Health Professions led by Dr. Joanna Christodoulou. Join us this summer for a virtual research study about children’s summer reading skills. The goal of the study is to understand how children’s reading skills develop during the summer. You are receiving this letter as an invitation to participate in this study with your child.

Who?

Students who are completing 4th, 5th, or 6th grade this school year and native English speakers are eligible to participate. All reading abilities are welcome, including students with reading difficulties.

What is my commitment?

If you and your child would like to participate, you will be scheduled to complete 2 virtual sessions scheduled about 8 weeks apart during the summer. For each session, a researcher would meet virtually with your child for about 2 hours as they complete a series of reading and related activities.

Can I receive my child’s scores?

Upon request, participants can receive a score report based on the behavioral assessments. Although this report is not diagnostic or conclusive, it can provide parents and teachers with important information about a child’s educational strengths and needs.

Is participation compensated?

Enrolled participants will be eligible to receive up to $40 in gift cards after completing the second virtual session.

How do I join this study?

If you are interested, please fill out this form: https://redcap.link/MGHsummer.

If I participated last year, can I enroll my child again?

Unfortunately, we can enroll each child for one summer, so if you joined us last summer (thank you), we hope you can support this research with referrals this year.

Can I ask more questions?

You can contact us via phone at 617-643-1482 or email (beamstudies@mghihp.edu) with any additional questions. If you do not wish to participate, there is no further action necessary on your part.
