District Security & Personnel Updates

September is just days away, and we are very excited to welcome everyone back to school for another great year in Hanover.  Each principal will be sharing school specific information and updates for families about events, operational issues, and procedures to get the school year off to a safe and positive start.  If you have questions about your child’s school, please check this site for information or call your school directly.

As the year begins, we will be sharing information with you about the work we have planned in the areas of literacy, personalized learning, and all of the changes with our elementary school configuration.  We have many challenges ahead of us, but we are ready to take on the hard work and keep moving the HPS forward!  Your ongoing support and involvement is greatly appreciated.

We are constantly working with our community partners including the Hanover Police Department, Fire Department, Facilities Department, and Town Hall to increase the overall safety and security of our schools.  This year, you will see some changes at every level.  Thanks to funding approved at the 2018 Annual Town Meeting, we are installing security camera systems at Hanover Middle School and Cedar School.  These systems are expected to be operational early in the school year and will be fully compatible with the systems at Hanover High and the new Center School. The front entrance at Hanover High has been remodeled to include a double entry “vestibule” with a security window where guests will be greeted and checked in prior to having access to school itself.  The Hanover PD will be increasing visibility on our campuses with frequent visits into each school to strengthen relationships between the HPD and our staff and students.  These visits will afford us an additional layer of security on an unpredictable schedule.  We are also planning our ALICE (active shooter survival) safety drills at every school and looking at other training opportunities to increase our preparedness for all emergencies.  As always, we will keep you informed as we move ahead.

I would like to announce the appointment of Mr. Keith Guyette as our new Director of Student Services (succeeding Joan Woodward).  Mr. Guyette brings almost 30 years of experience working in special education and student support services including the past twenty years in the Boston Public Schools.  In the weeks ahead, he will be spending as much time as possible meeting our staff, students, and parents as well as visiting our schools and programs.  Please join me in welcoming Mr. Guyette to our HPS community, and we are very excited that he is joining our team.

Please enjoy the long weekend and the last days of summer 2018!

Sincerely,

Matt Ferron
Superintendent
