Hanover Public Schools Health Office Update 6/9/26

Hanover Health

Happy Summer! As we wrap up another successful school year, the Hanover Public Schools Health Office would like to share a few important reminders to help keep students safe and healthy this summer.

Important Safety Alert: NeeDoh Toys and Microwaves

Recently, there has been a popular social media trend encouraging children to microwave NeeDoh squishy toys to make them more pliable. This is extremely dangerous. When heated, the gel rapidly overheats and may explode when handled. This can also happen when left in a hot car.

Recently, a Hanover elementary school student was severely injured by heating a NeeDoh toy in the microwave. The toy exploded, and the hot gel caused second and third-degree burns to their face, neck, arms, and hands. The manufacturer (Schylling) and medical professionals strictly advise not to heat, freeze, or microwave these toys. If the toy breaks open during regular play, wash the area immediately and dispose of the toy.

We urge all families to discuss this danger with their children and to ensure that these toys are never heated, frozen, or altered in any way, regardless of what may be promoted on social media.

Medication Pick-Up Reminder

If your child has medication stored in the Health Office, please make arrangements to pick it up on or before the last day of school. Medications cannot be sent home with students. Any medications not picked up by June 23, 2026, will be disposed of in accordance with district guidelines.
