Hanover Public Schools Juneteenth Observance 6/20/22

American and Juneteenth Flags

The Town of Hanover, Massachusetts is committed to recognizing and commemorating Juneteenth National Independence Day. This federal holiday is a time to reflect on African American history and especially how slavery affected our community and nation. All Hanover town and school buildings will display the Juneteenth flag this weekend and on Monday, June 20th

Juneteenth marks the anniversary announcement of General Order No. 3 by Union Army General Gordon Granger on June 19, 1865, proclaiming freedom for enslaved people in Texas. Juneteenth is also known as Freedom Day or Emancipation Day.
