Health Services Update 5/14/21

Hanover Health

I am writing with an update from Health Services. As you are likely aware, there have been some exciting developments in the COVID-19 pandemic response this week that we would like to address:

Pfizer 2-Dose Vaccine

The Pfizer 2-Dose Vaccine was approved by the FDA under emergency use authorization for 12 years old and older.

  • The Pfizer vaccine for 12-15 year-olds (and older) is supported by the FDA, CDC, MDPH, and the American Academy of Pediatrics.
  • There is no COVID-19 vaccine mandate at this time.
  • We recommend that you discuss any questions or concerns about the Pfizer vaccine with your child’s pediatrician.
  • Absence due to vaccine appointments will be excused, just like any other medical appointment.
  • Please provide documentation of your child’s vaccination to your school nurse.
  • Anyone who is fully vaccinated is not required to quarantine or test if in close contact with someone who tested positive for COVID-19.
  • Go to https://vaxfinder.mass.gov if you would like to locate a vaccine appointment for yourself or your child over the age of 12.

Mask Mandates

  • Yesterday (May 13, 2021), the CDC and President Biden announced that fully vaccinated individuals do not need to mask in most places.
  • MDPH and DESE have not yet changed their mask guidelines, and as a public school, we are required to follow the guidelines of DESE.
  • All students and staff are still required to wear masks on school grounds at all times unless on a mask break, or while eating/drinking.

As soon as changes to the guidance are announced, we will inform our community and make the necessary changes to our protocols. In the meantime, please be aware that COVID-19 is still circulating in the community, so please continue to remain vigilant.

Please reach out to me or your school nurse at any time if you have any questions or concerns.

Things are getting better! Have a great weekend. Sending our best wishes to the HHS Seniors for a wonderful Prom Night tomorrow.

Sincerely,

Patricia Smith, BSN, RN, NCSN
Director of Health Services
