Masks Optional on Hanover Busses 2/27/22

Hanover H

We hope that everyone had a safe and enjoyable vacation week.  Earlier today, we received a message from DESE stating that local school districts have the authority to follow the updated CDC guidance regarding masks on school buses.

From Commissioner Riley: "Late Friday, the CDC announced that, effective February 25, 2022, it is no longer requiring that masks be worn on school buses or vans for K-12 students and children in childcare programs.  Schools and districts may decide whether to lift or maintain local mask requirements on buses or vans.”

Effective tomorrow, Monday, February 28th, masks will be optional on Hanover school buses.  For the time being, windows on buses will remain slightly open consistent with our current protocol.  We will revisit that mitigation strategy in the spring.  Masks are still required in health offices, and they will be provided if a student (or staff member) doesn’t have one.

We are optimistic that moving forward with optional masking at school, school events, and on the bus will offer our students, staff, and families another step forward toward normalcy.

As we return from vacation week, a lot has happened in the world including the Russian invasion of Ukraine.  For some students, this may be another source of stress and anxiety during a time when mental health issues are a major concern for young people across our country.  If your child needs any support, please reach out to your child’s counselor, teacher, principal, or nurse and we are here to help in any way possible.

We look forward to seeing everyone tomorrow and will share any additional information as it becomes available.

Sincerely,

Matt Ferron
Superintendent
