English Learners

As part of the Hanover Public Schools registration process, parents/guardians are asked to complete a Home Language Survey.

• Principals will notify the Director of Pupil Personnel Services of any student whose first language is other than English.
• These students will be assessed using language screening tools administered by qualified, trained district personnel. Based on the results of the language screening assessment and other pertinent information, a determination will be made as to whether the student is an English Language Learner (ELL) and qualifies for English Language instruction appropriate for the student's level of English language proficiency.
• Parents/guardians will be notified of the language screening assessment results.
• Parents/guardians have a right to "opt out" of these services or request a waiver.
