Graduation Update 7/17/20

July 17, 2020

H Grad HatI hope you’re able to find some time this July to enjoy some rest and relaxation.  There’s nothing like a beautiful day in July – in New England – precious, rare, and beautiful.  The weekend looks to be gorgeous.

Speaking of July, we have a graduation to hold before the month’s out!  As previously planned, graduation for the Class of 2020 is scheduled for Friday, July 31st at 7:00 pm on the turf field at the high school.

Now, we do have several state guidelines regarding ceremonies held after July 19th to which we must adhere: Commissioner's Graduation Guidance.  Regardless of these guidelines, we’ll make the evening special for the well-deserving and time-tested Class of 2020.  At this time, I’ll just give you a broad overview of some of these expectations.  Later next week, however, I’ll provide all further and necessary details.

  • All graduates are expected at the high school on Wednesday, July 29th and Thursday, July 30th at 10:00 am on both days for mandatory rehearsals.
  • If any student is choosing NOT to participate in graduation, (you know – vacations, previous commitments – it can be difficult) please notify Kathy Gallagher at kgallagher@hanoverschools.org as soon as possible and prior to next Wednesday, July 22nd
  • All graduates participating in the ceremony will be permitted to invite up to 6 immediate family members to celebrate with them on Friday, July 31st
  • Not unlike weddings and similar celebratory events, certain venues can only accommodate so many people.  As it is, we’re “pushing it” with 6 per party on the field.
  • Again, like weddings, we need to know exactly who’s coming and who’s not.  So all guests will be required to preregister with the main office well in advance of the ceremony.  (I’ll explain more next week).
  • At the ceremony, all attendees will be required to wear masks (kind of like veils, but not really).
  • Having nothing to do with weddings, students will be seated 6 feet apart from one another.
  • Exactly like weddings, invited family members will be permitted to sit in close proximity with other members of the same family.  You’ll have your own “table” and table number.  Not kidding.
  • As it’s good practice at some weddings, all invited family groups will be seated at least 6 feet apart from other invited family groups.
  • All guests will be escorted to their assigned seats after checking in at the main gate, the only means of entrance to the turf field that night.
  • Details regarding parking and entrance/exit protocols will be provided well in advance of graduation.

Looking forward to the 31st!

That’s it for now.  Be well.  Be safe.
