"Senior Exchange" Day 2020

I hope you and your families are doing well, staying strong, and feeling okay.

If you happen to drive along Cedar Street, please take a moment to recognize the tribute to the Class of 2020 in front of the high school, including the signs along the street, and the portraits perched upon the embankment.

The signs in front of the wall are personalized messages to the Class of 2020 from faculty members across the district.  Thank you to everyone who submitted!  I want to thank the Safe-Grad Committee for generously sponsoring the individualized signs on the hill, behind these messages.  Not sure if you noticed, but we arranged them according to our seating schematic for graduation.  They’re arranged, as they will be seated –hopefully – at graduation.  Let’s remember, however, to temper our hopes for a “graduation ceremony” and keep all things in perspective given the daily uncertainty of our social conditions.  Although Governor Baker’s recent message and plan embodies a level of optimism, we’ll continue to monitor our circumstances with great caution and care.  That said, the tribute out front of HHS looks cool.

Although the majority of this message concerns our seniors, I wanted to include all grades as it’s nice to be aware of certain celebrations; moreover, we may find that current protocols and procedures for the senior class may perhaps pertain to the other grades later in the year especially in terms of building access and the exchange of material items.

Speaking of items, seniors should be happy to know that your yearbooks have arrived!  As well, your senior t-shirts are here, and we’ll also need to get to you the contents of your lockers.

To that end, this Tuesday, May 26th will be our “senior exchange” day.  You’ll be given an assigned block of time to arrive at HHS on Tuesday.  Upon arrival, there will be tables out front on which alphabetically arranged items will be ready for pick-up, i.e. yearbooks, t-shirts, and locker contents.  In “exchange”, you’ll be expected to return all items owed to the school, e.g. textbooks, calculators, and chromebooks.

I’ll be sending a much more detailed explanation of the day’s protocols and procedures, but here’s a quick snapshot.  There will be approximately twenty tables out front, ten to the left and ten to the right, as you proceed down the main drive.  The items are alphabetical arranged, so – for example – if your last name falls within the first half of the alphabet, then you’d turn left as you reach the school.  If your last name falls within the second half of the alphabet, then you’d turn right as you reach the school (see attached).

Again, much more detailed information to follow.  For now, be sure to check out the tribute to the Class of 2020 arranged in front of HHS.

That’s it for now.  Be well.  Be safe.

Principal
