The Dangers of Vaping: What You Need to Know

Last week, Superintendent Ferron sent home a communication regarding the Hanover Public Schools proactive response to vaping through educating the Hanover community.  On Tuesday, May 21, 2019, at 6:00 PM in the high school auditorium, the Hanover Public Schools, in partnership with the Hanover Police and the Greater Boston Tobacco-Free Community Partnership, will present and discuss “The Dangers of Vaping: What You Need to Know.”

Hanover Middle school is full of wonderful kids from strong families.  What I need you to hear is that even wonderful kids can make poor choices. Our jobs as the adults, is to educate and hopefully inform students’ decision making, and to support them as needed.  Although I do not view vaping as an epidemic with HMS students (both at HMS and outside of school),  it does exist and it has had or will have a direct impact on all of our students in some way.  Our own experience in Hanover (and the research supports) that this behavior will increase in high school and we need to address this issue during these very impressionable years.

Tuesday evening is a night for adults that will include a presentation followed by a panel discussion of experts and school staff.  Parents and the community will have an opportunity to learn from the experts and ask questions of the panel.  It is really a great opportunity and one that the entire community can benefit from!

Please contact me if you have any questions, concerns, or idea.  I look forward to seeing you there!

Sincerely,

Daniel Birolini
Principal
