Cedar School Benchmark Update 3/4/21

As we shared in the fall, as part of our comprehensive literacy program, our teaching staff administer a series of benchmark assessments three times per year. These assessments are utilized by teachers as tools to identify students’ current literacy levels and to inform individual, small group, and whole-class instruction. The primary assessment we administer with your child is the Dynamic Indicators of Basic Early Literacy Skills 8th Edition, or DIBELS 8. Your child’s classroom teacher has completed the winter assessment and will be sharing highlights from this assessment, including a performance report, at an upcoming conference.

Please note, if you have a child at the Center School you will be receiving this report in backpacks, or by mail this week. With so many of our students and parents experiencing benchmark assessments for the first time, at Cedar we decided to wait until conferences to share the report so we could discuss the assessment, share the results, and answer any questions you may have. We are hopeful that this approach will be most beneficial for the parents of our youngest students.

More information about the next round of conferences will be sent out soon.

Have a wonderful afternoon!

Sincerely,

Mike Oates & Ellen McLaughlin
