Cedar School News and Updates 11/3/23

Share Our Story

November is a perfect time of year to reflect and to practice gratitude. Although it’s still early in the school year, we have had a variety of experiences that have established positive connections between home and Cedar School. These events have included the Kindergarten Playdate, Student Orientations, Curriculum Night, Cedar Pumpkin Stroll, Fall Book Fair, and the Halloween Parade.

Recently, we hosted the Annual Pumpkin Stroll and Halloween Parade. The attendance at these events was nothing short of remarkable. Your enthusiastic participation and unwavering generosity made these events not just successful but truly exceptional! We saw many special memories being made, and we are thankful for all of the support from local businesses, volunteers, and families. We are fortunate to have such a vibrant and caring community and look forward to bringing you more exciting events in the future.

Kindergarten and first grade students recently participated in their first community meeting of the school year with Dr. Stoloski and me. The discussion during that meeting was centered around “Super Friend” expectations during the school day, including expected behaviors on the bus, in the cafeteria, and in the bathroom. We even had a group of students who demonstrated expected “Super Friend” behavior on a replica of a school bus. During the meeting, the students also had the opportunity to listen to our School Psychologist, Ms. Kelser. She talked to the students about personal space. Creating an environment where all students feel safe and supported continues to be the number one priority at Cedar School, and we appreciate Ms. Kelser’s support during this meeting.

Starting in November, “Super Friend” certificates will be sent home with each student. We encourage parent(s)/guardian(s) to look for instances when your child is being a Super Friend at home and complete the certificate. The certificate should be sent back to school with the student in order to help reinforce the importance of the child being safe, being kind, or following the plan.

Shoutouts

I would like to commend Mrs. Richardson, Mrs. Scanlon, and Mr. Ryerson for their support with recent school events. I would also like to take a moment to thank the following volunteers who contributed their time and energy to the Fall Book Fair and/or Pumpkin Stroll: Ashley DeVincenzo, Kristina Napolitan, Kristina Levasseur, Susie Hanlon, Sara McDonald, Jessica Novoson, Lauren Delaney, Carol Rodday, Michelle Hill, and Eliza Kennedy.

Your hard work and passion were the driving force behind these events.

Additional Updates/Reminders

As a reminder, there is no school for students on Tuesday, November 7, 2023.

We are looking forward to our Veterans Day Assembly that is scheduled for Thursday, November 9, 2023. If you are a Veteran or have a Veteran in your family who would like to attend the assembly, please contact Mrs. DelPrete in the main office by Monday, November 6, 2023, at sdelprete@hanoverschools.org. Mrs. DelPrete will be able to share more information with individuals at that time. Again, this event is open to Veterans and their families.

Unfortunately, it does not appear as though we will be experiencing any upcoming record-high temperatures like we experienced last week. With that in mind, please be sure that your child is dressed appropriately to go outside for recess each day. We will continue to try to get the students outside for recess as often as possible.

Please continue to prioritize getting your child to Cedar School on time. It is critical that students are in their classrooms and at their seats ready to learn no later than 8:30 am each morning.

Please find a moment to check the Lost and Found cart outside of the library. All items on this cart will be donated to Goodwill at the end of the school day on Thursday, November 9, 2023. There are a number of sweatshirts, jackets, and water bottles that have accumulated over the past two months.
