Cedar School News and Updates 3/19/24

Share Our Story

I am overwhelmed by the level of support and encouragement that we received during the Boosterthon Fundraiser. The students were so excited for the Fun Run and to exceed their goal of $60,000 to raise a total of $82,000. I hope the memory of running with friends and taping me to the cafeteria wall is one that will remain with the students for years to come! We will be working closely with the Hanover PTA in determining how we can use these funds to best support our students in the future.

Cedar School will be hosting the Spring Scholastic Book Fair from April 1st through April 4th. Students will have the opportunity to browse and create a wish list of books during their literacy block to bring home for parent(s)/guardian(s) to review. Families will have the opportunity to browse and purchase books during their conference times that week, as well as the designated times listed below. If you do not have an opportunity to stop in the library during the listed times, please know that you will have the option of purchasing books online. We will provide you with the link as we get closer to the Book Fair week.

  • Monday, April 1st - 3:00-500 pm
  • Tuesday, April 2nd - 1:00-4:00 pm
  • Wednesday, April 3rd - 3:00-5:00 pm
  • Thursday, April 4th - 1:00-8:00 pm

During the spring Teacher Conferences, Mrs. Russo, our art teacher, will display student artwork for parents to view. The artwork will be set up outside of the students' designated classroom. Each student will have one piece of artwork on display. Please consider taking a moment to meet with Mrs. Russo during your conference visit. She would be more than happy to share information about the elements and principles of art that the students are learning about.

Our students continue to demonstrate what it means to be Super Friends. I have observed students being so happy in the company of their classmates and teachers. The month of March has been full of learning, and the rich discourse and deep thinking that has been happening between students and staff has been exciting to watch.

Shoutouts

Ellen Burns and Anastasia Frank, Cedar School’s Reading Specialists, recently received a $4,000 competitive grant to fund their participation in the training of the Lexia LETRS program. The program teaches the skills needed to master the foundational and fundamental basics of reading and writing instruction. Congratulations to these two exceptional educators!

We had over 120 people attend Math Night at Cedar School last week. Thank you to Mrs. McBride (Math Coach K-6) and the staff who supported this engaging and incredible event! This group included Mrs. Dutton, Mrs. Johnson, Mrs. Brown, Ms. Horton, and Ms. Burns. This event required a great deal of planning and organizing and was very well received by our families. Great job!
