Cedar Connections

Share our Story

This message section is intended to share our story at Cedar School. We invite parents, guardians, and caregivers to share their stories too, by communicating with us and one another.

Kindergarten and first-grade students had the amazing opportunity to visit Hanover High School last week and attend Pete the Cat’s Big Hollywood Adventure! The musical featured literature-based connections, including several fun-filled Pete the Cat books. Students were thrilled to be able to attend a theater production outside of the building and were dancing and rocking out of their seats by the end of the show!

We would like to thank all of the volunteers who made the Book Fair and Art Exhibition such a huge success at Cedar. Thank you for your partnership during teacher conferences and for the generous donations that were shared with the PTA during that particular week. The week of teacher conferences is always such a busy week, where teachers are excited to meet with the parents and share meaningful information. With that in mind, please know that this gesture made a tremendous impact on the staff.

Excitement is starting to build for our One Book, One School event in the month of May. This event is a favorite among staff and students, and this year will be no different. We are excited to share that there are a variety of different events and surprises planned for the weeks of May 1st and May 8th. This is just another example of how we are enhancing literacy for all students through a fun approach and working with students to find a passion for reading. Each student will receive the designated book to keep, and the entire school community will read a chapter each night for two weeks. As we get closer to the starting date, clues closely connected to the book will be left around the building. The event will conclude with a celebration on Friday, May 12th that will include several big surprises!

Important Cedar Information

This is a reminder that there is no school for students and staff during the week of April 17th.

Kindergarten Screenings will take place on May 1st and May 3rd for incoming Kindergarten students who are not currently enrolled in preschool at Cedar. Children who are currently attending the preschool program at Cedar will be screened this spring by a designated staff member during the school day. As a reminder, a child must be five years of age by September 1, 2023, to be eligible for Kindergarten.

We will have a Kindergarten Informational Night for parents/guardians of incoming Kindergarten students on Thursday, May 25, 2023, from 5:00 pm to 5:45 pm. You will be able to visit the building and learn about your child’s transition into Kindergarten. This is a parent/guardian-only event. Please know that incoming Kindergarten students will have the opportunity to meet their classmates and take a ride on the school bus on a select date in August.

We will be looking for parent volunteers to support the Cedar PTA during the Staff Appreciation Week (5/8-5/12). If you are interested in volunteering for this particular occasion, please contact Michelle Hill who will be able to provide you with more details (mes510@yahoo.com). We would really appreciate your support with this initiative.

A questionnaire for student placement was sent home yesterday to parents/guardians of students who will be in preschool, kindergarten or first-grade in the fall. If you are interested in submitting feedback, please know that it must be submitted by Friday, April 21, 2023. A questionnaire was shared recently with current First-Grade parents/guardians by Mrs. DeGrenier.

Shoutouts

National Paraprofessional Day was last week. We would like to thank our paraprofessionals and support staff for all of their hard work at Cedar and for everything that they do for our students. This group of educators are caring, patient, creative, knowledgeable, loving, and overall amazing!

Thank you to Busy Bee Jumpers in Hanover for donating multiple inflatables for Cedar’s Field Day in June. This will be a wonderful experience for our students toward the end of the year and a fun way to celebrate a terrific year.
