Cedar Connections

Share Our Story

This section of the message is intended to share our story at Cedar. We invite parents, guardians, and caregivers to share their stories, too, by communicating with us and one another.

The first grade students had a wonderful time visiting the Soule Homestead Farm last week. Students had the opportunity to engage in hands-on learning experiences at the farm, including meeting and interacting with the animals, participating in a nature walk to learn about their habitat, and participating in a wool craft. This was a unique and meaningful experience that the students will remember for a very long time. Thank you to all the adults who volunteered their time to support this special trip.

We enjoyed meeting the parent(s)/guardian(s) of our incoming Kindergarten students last week. There were many great questions concerning the upcoming year and how to best prepare your child for Kindergarten. If you were not able to attend the meeting, you may view the presentation on the Cedar School website.

I had the opportunity to meet with the kindergarten and first grade students in our final community meeting of the year. The students spent time brainstorming ideas centered around the core values at Cedar (Be Safe, Be Kind, Follow the Plan), working together in small groups to expand those meanings. Students then developed “I Can Statements” around each of the values that applied to areas of the school day, including the hallway, cafeteria, bathrooms, school bus, and classrooms. These statements will help the incoming First-Grade and Kindergarten students next year with learning and applying these concepts.

Important Cedar Information

There will be a Hanover PTA Fundraiser at Jersey Mike’s from June 1st through June 2nd. Each student will receive a “Donation Card” from their classroom teacher that they can take home and use at the restaurant. Donation cards must be presented to the store employee at the time of the purchase in order for the money to go toward the school fundraiser. The attached link below provides more information about the fundraiser.

The Cedar PTO will be looking for volunteers for the First Grade “Hooray Day” on June 8th. This is a celebration that will include fun and engaging activities for our oldest students as they celebrate the end of the school year. Please know that parent(s)/guardian(s) do not attend this event. However, if you are interested in volunteering, there is a sign-up link attached below.

The Town of Hanover in partnership with the Hanover PRIDE is pleased to announce the third annual, Don’t Hide the Pride event. The event takes place on Saturday, June 10, 2023, from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Forge Park (245 King Street). The event includes food trucks, music, vendors, a pet show, and many great raffle prizes. Visitors are encouraged to bring a lawn chair.

We are excited to share that renovations to the main entrance of Cedar School will begin at the start of the summer. An enclosed security vestibule will be built at the entrance of Cedar. This will include a second set of doors for another added layer of building security. This project will also include renovating and reorganizing the main office in order for visitors to access these spaces. We anticipate this project being completed toward the end of the summer.

General Reminders

Field Day will take place this Friday, June 2nd. Students should come prepared with sneakers, a water bottle, and clothing suitable for physical activity. The weather is expected to be very hot at the end of the week. Sunscreen should be applied before your child arrives at school.

We have noticed an increase in the number of students wearing Heely Roller Shoes to school. This footwear is both distracting and a safety concern during the school day. We ask that you please refrain from sending your child to school with this specific footwear.

Please continue to make every effort to have your child(ren) at school and on time (8:15 am - 8:30 am) each day.

Shoutouts

We would like to thank Tim Brown who is the owner of Party Right Rentals in Hanover as well as a Cedar School parent. Tim was kind enough to donate the snow cone machine for the recent One Book, One School Celebration.

Thank you to the Cedar PTA for their time, effort, and generosity during Staff Appreciation Week. The week was filled with fun surprises and generous acts of kindness. We are so grateful for your continued support and thoughtfulness.
