Cedar School News and Updates 8/26/23

Dr. Stoloski and I enjoyed meeting so many new Cedar School students and families during the Kindergarten Playdate earlier this week. We could not have asked for better weather! However, the change in temperature yesterday might be an indication that the summer season is coming to an end. As you begin to think about the upcoming school year for your child(ren) at Cedar School, I wanted to take this moment to share information pertaining to the arrival and dismissal procedures, in addition to other important information about the start of the school year.

Arrival (8:15-8:30 am)

Students should arrive on their first day of school at 8:15 am. If your child is arriving at school by vehicle, please know that the drop-off line for kindergarten and first grade will loop around the side of the building. Staff will be present to support students getting out of their vehicles and guide students to the appropriate classrooms. Once your child has been dropped off, please exit the complex while using caution, as many vehicles and buses will be entering the complex at this time. You will receive a sign on the first day that should be placed on the front passenger window of the vehicle. We ask that you write your child’s first and last name in large text, as well as the classroom teacher’s name so that it’s visible to staff.

If your child arrives after 8:30 am, please park in front of the school and walk your child to the main entrance to be checked in by the office staff. Adults are not permitted to accompany children to their classrooms.

Students who are transported to Cedar School in a van will arrive at 8:30 am. The arrival process for students in the Integrated Preschool (AM) and Little Stars programs will be from 8:30 am to 8:45 am around the side of the building. Staff will be present during this time to help support the transition.

If your child is arriving at Cedar by bus, please know that we will have staff positioned accordingly, so that they can greet students and guide them to their classrooms. Students will be given a bus tag on the first day of school. It is suggested that students arrive at their bus stop 5 minutes prior to the posted time. The bus routes will be shared with families through email on Monday.

Dismissal (2:50-3:10 pm)

Announcements for dismissal will start at 2:45 pm. We ask that you not arrive prior to this time (2:45 pm) to help reduce congestion in the complex. The pickup line will begin at 2:50 pm. Students should be picked up in the back of the building, similar to the arrival process in the morning. The sign should be placed in the car window, so that it’s visible to staff.

We expect that all buses will be on the road by 3:10 pm.

The dismissal procedure for preschool students will be at the front of the building (different from arrival). More information regarding preschool pickup will be shared during the Preschool Orientation.

Shout Outs

Thank you to our administrative assistants, who have worked extremely hard all summer to prepare for the start of the year. Mrs. DelPrete and Mrs. Clasby recently moved into their newly renovated office and are excited to greet you and your child(ren) very soon!

Student Visit Information

Cedar students are invited to attend an orientation during specific designated times listed below. We are very excited to see our Cedar friends and families, but we kindly ask that you not arrive early. The times were developed to effectively transition students during the school day. The purpose of these visits is for your child to meet their homeroom teacher, visit the classroom, and become familiar with peers in their class. Please know that you can arrive with your child at any time during the designated window that has been shared. This is not a drop-off event.
