Cedar School News and Updates 9/11/23

Share Our Story

The timing of this email indicates that we have officially completed the first week of our “Cedar Journey” with students and staff and we are excited for the week ahead. We had a strong start to the year, even with the hot days that were thrown our way. I can’t thank our staff and school community enough for all their hard work and support last week, ensuring that our students remained safe while also learning new procedures and routines.

Last week, students were taught what it means to be a Cedar “Super Friend.” A “Super Friend” is someone who is safe, kind, and follows the plan. Students participated in an age-appropriate fire drill on Friday at Cedar School and were asked to listen to the adult(s) in charge and follow the plan. The feedback that we received from the Hanover Fire Department was extremely positive and was centered around how quickly and safely all our students and staff exited the building. The safety of your child continues to be our number one priority. The more we practice and share common language around safety, the better prepared our students will be when responding to an emergency. We will share more information about upcoming safety drills in the next Cedar Connection.

Important Cedar Information

  • The CORI/SORI process should be completed no later than Friday, September 15, 2023, for parent(s)/guardian(s) interested in volunteering. These forms should be completed at the Cedar main office. You can check the expiration date of your forms through the Aspen Portal.
  • Please visit the HPS Food Services website to view the lunch menu and read information about nutrition and health-related topics.
  • As a friendly reminder, please make sure that the sign in your vehicle is visible when entering the pickup line at the end of the school day. This will help to create an efficient dismissal process for everyone involved. The pickup line for Kindergarten and First-Grade students should not begin until 2:45 pm.
  • Bus transportation is shared by both Cedar School and Center School students. There are some instances when the bus will stop at Center School to drop off students in the morning before driving over to Cedar School. Additionally, some buses will pick up at Cedar School in the afternoon and then transition to Center School before starting their bus route.
  • Please see the important links related to the Cedar PTA. The first link is a letter that includes information about a one-time donation to the Cedar School community. Your donation will go directly back to the students at Cedar School.

Shoutouts

We are extremely fortunate to have such dedicated parents/guardians leading our Cedar PTA again this school year. We would like to thank Michelle Hill and Eliza Kennedy for coordinating the luncheon that was provided to our staff and faculty last week. The lunch was a wonderful way to welcome back our staff and very much enjoyed and appreciated.

More Information

Curriculum Night at Cedar School is scheduled for Thursday, September 28, 2023. Curriculum Night is an educational Open House that takes place at the beginning of the school year. Parents/guardians have the opportunity to arrive at Cedar School and receive critical information that will benefit their child’s learning throughout the year. At Curriculum Night, you can expect the following:

  • Teachers to share information on classroom routines, expectations, and home-school communication.
  • Teachers to share information on grade-level curriculum.
  • The opportunity to meet your child’s teacher and ask general questions.
  • The opportunity to meet the parents/guardians of your child’s peers and become familiar with your child’s learning environment.

Curriculum Night will be segmented into two sections to accommodate the number of families and parking at Cedar.  Please see the timeline listed above under “Upcoming Dates at Cedar.” This is a parent/guardian-only event. Additional information will be shared out on the next Cedar Connection.

I hope that you have a fantastic week!

Best,
