Cedar School NeeDoh Alert 6/11/26

I am writing to ask for your support. Our nurse leader recently shared an important safety alert regarding NeeDoh squishy toys and similar products. As noted in the message, a dangerous social media trend has encouraged children to microwave these toys to make them more pliable. When heated, the gel inside can rapidly overheat and explode, causing serious injuries.

In addition to the safety concerns outlined in the nurse leader's message, we have seen an increasing number of NeeDohs and other squishy toys being brought to school. Some of these toys are popping during the school day, leaving residue on students, bus seats, classroom furniture, and learning materials. The contents vary by brand, and some products may pose greater concerns than others when damaged.

We will be reminding students that NeeDohs and similar squishy toys should remain at home and should not be brought to school. While these items may be enjoyable outside of school, they have become a distraction to learning and have created safety and cleanup concerns within our school environment.

If a squishy toy is brought to school, staff will ask the student to put it away, and repeated instances will result in the item being held until the end of the day or sent home with a parent or guardian.

Our goal is to maintain a safe and positive learning environment for all students. We appreciate your understanding, cooperation, and continued partnership in supporting the safety and well-being of our school community.

Take care,

Ellen Burns
