On Wednesday, May 4, 2022, and/or Thursday, May 5, 2022, children in Kindergarten will be welcoming our guest readers from Raising Multicultural Kids (RMK) to their classroom who will be sharing the story MITZVAH PIZZA. Our guest readers are excited to share their love of reading and their cultural backgrounds! Below is information about the book, author, and RMK lesson.

A 2019 Caldecott Honor Book

Missy loves Saturdays with her dad. Every week they do something special together. Usually, Dad brings the funds and Missy brings the fun, but this week, it's Missy's turn to treat with her own allowance—until she and her dad stop for pizza, and Missy discovers a special way to do a mitzvah.

Raising Multicultural Kids Guiding Principles

Guiding Principle 1: Encouraging children to be curious about themselves and others builds self-confidence and empathy.

Guiding Principle 2: Exposing children to different family structures, cultures, skin colors, and language widens a student’s worldview and builds empathy and perspective.

Guiding Principle 3: Teaching children ways they can take action when they witness or experience harmful treatment build advocacy skills. Teaching children how to share what they learn also builds advocacy skills.

If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out. If you would like to have your child opt out of this activity, please email your child’s teacher by Monday, May 2, 2022. An alternate book and activity will be
provided by a Cedar faculty member on the day of the event.

Thank you,
