Center School Jessica and Rescue Book Order

On Monday, February 3, 2020, we will be having a visit from author, Jessica Kensky and her dog Rescue.  Please read on below to learn more about their amazing work and their story of friendship and teamwork.  All students in grades 2-4 will meet Jessica and Rescue and hear their amazing story and more about the life of a service dog.  If you are interested in purchasing a copy of the book, please return the order form attached (or the one that went home in backpacks last week) and return to school by Friday, January 31, 2020.

We look forward to meeting this dynamic duo next Monday!  A special thank you to Mrs. Madden for arranging this visit for us and for making this special book available to our students.

Storybook Cove is generously giving back 20% of the proceeds of the book sales to Center School.  Our plan is to use 10% of the sales towards our literacy program and the other 10% as a donation from Center School to NEADS.

Thank you for your continued support,

Mrs. DeGrenier
Principal

About the Authors

Jessica Kensky and Patrick Downes were married in 2012 and were injured during the Boston Marathon bombing in 2013. Rescue joined them several months later. Jessica received Rescue from NEADS, the same organization that gave Center Elementary School our Assistance Dog, Gianna. Their personal stories of healing have touched millions of people around the world. They presently live in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

About the Story

Rescue thought he’d grow up to be a Seeing Eye dog — it’s the family business, after all. When he gets the news that he’s better suited to being a service dog, he’s worried that he’s not up to the task. Then he meets Jessica, a girl whose life is turning out differently than the way she'd imagined it, too. Now Jessica needs Rescue by her side to help her accomplish everyday tasks. And it turns out that Rescue can help Jessica see after all: a way forward, together, one step at a time. An endnote from the authors tells more about the training and extraordinary abilities of service dogs, particularly their real-life best friend and black lab, Rescue.
