Center School News 5/24/20

I hope you are enjoying this Memorial Day weekend and finding new ways to get together and to remember those who have served our country with such bravery and honor.  It seems strange not to be doing some of the traditional activities but at the same time it is good to know we are all working together to slowly move forward and out of this quarantined living we have come to know these past 14 weeks.  Hanover is blessed to be a place where so many caring people come together and take care of keeping the spirit and strength of its community alive.  The work of those in the town and the schools to make a 'reverse' Memorial Day celebration part of this weekend  is just one example of the greatness of the Hanover community. Please enjoy the news, events, and stories found on the Hanover Memorial Day page.

Happy Memorial Day,

Mrs. DeGrenier
Principal

Message from Mrs. Madden and Gianna

We all have problems that arise throughout our day and our students are no exception.  When we encounter problems, we have a choice in how we decide to react.  This week our lesson is about how to determine the size of our problems (small, medium, or big) and then trying to match our reaction size to the problem size.  All of the weekly video lessons, along with several related activities, can be found on our remote learning website under the Social/Emotional tab (Weekly Lessons).  Don't forget to also check out helpful resources for parents/guardians on the website (Social/Emotional Resources).

Seeds

Any student interested in planting pumpkin or sunflowers at home can pick up a baggie with seeds and directions.  A bag has been left with all of the remaining packages following our third grade seed distribution.  A special thank you to the Plymouth 4-H for donating the seeds again this year!

Teachers Learn from Home

During the extended school closure our teachers have continued to seek out and participate in professional development to enhance their teaching skills and to gain a deeper understanding of the best tools and best ways for teaching in a remote environment.  We are fortunate to have staff who could provide this professional development as well as many vendors who provided free professional development to teachers during this time of COVID-19.  This list is extensive and some of it you may have been witness to during these past 14 weeks.  Google classroom, Lexia, Bitmoji, Screencastify, Flip-Grid, Weebly, i-Ready, webinars on dyslexia, reading fluency and foundational skills, tele-health, Zoom, and Lively Letters, a variety of social emotional webinars,   This list is not all inclusive and there is much more that teachers have been able to take advantage of during this time.

On Tuesday May 26 and Thursday June 4 from 12-3, all teachers in grades K-5 will be taking part in training for DIBELS 8 so that we are prepared for administering the update version of DIBELS to all students beginning in September 2020.

Parent/Teacher Conferences

Optional parent/teacher conferences will be held virtually the week of June 1st-5th.  If you would like to conference with your child’s teacher, please email the teacher and they will set up a mutually agreed upon time with you to hold a 10"-15” conference by phone or zoom during the week of first week of June.
