Center School News 7/19/20

July 19, 2020

We continue to work on our plans for the return to school and what the model for student learning will look like in a time of COVID-19.  As part of that work groups are forming to take to a close look at some of the key areas that require our attention before we begin the new school year. These groups include teachers, support staff, parents, administrators, and school committee members so that all voices are represented in our planning.  Your input on the home learning survey was invaluable and will be used as part of our work and planning. The results of the survey will be shared with you in the near future. We will continue to bring you updates on how we progress in our planning.  I am grateful to those who are giving of their time during the summer to help us with this work.  The district committees are listed first along with the Center School representative and followed by the members of the Center School Reentry Working Group.

This message is to remind you the Department of Public Health will maintain immunization requirements for school entry as they are currently posted for the 2020-2021 school year. The Immunization Division acknowledges the intense pressure families and schools are facing in the midst of COVID-19 and continues to advise that vaccinating against vaccine-preventable diseases is important to reduce the overall burden of disease in our communities. Please forward your student's updated physical and record of immunization before the start of school. We thank you in advance for your assistance with this matter.  Questions and forms can be directed to Nurse, Carol Krall at Center School.  Her phone and fax goes to a confidential line and messages can be left for only Mrs. Krall.  While we are on a summer schedule response time may be longer than usual.

A message from Mrs. Madden and Gianna

I hope you are finding some time this summer to relax, rejuvenate, and have fun with your family.  Below is a link to a three-week summer camp that includes research-based activities modeled on the Second Step program, our social-emotional learning curriculum.  The activities teach social-emotional skills that can be helpful for all kids ages 1-14 (the activities are presented by grade level) while also helping students learn about science, social studies, math and more.  The activities require a small investment in time and easy-to-find household materials, but will allow students to learn and practice important social-emotional skills, families to spend quality time together, and kids to continue learning over the summer.  The camp activities are easy to complete and can be accessed at your own pace.  I highly recommend giving them a try.

Have a wonderful week!  Be well and stay safe,

Jane DeGrenier
