Center School News and Updates 10/10/23

We are 25 days into the school year and busier than ever! We have finished up the fall benchmark assessments for reading and math. Those results will be posted to your family portal later this week. Results from grade three MCAS are being mailed home on Wednesday, October 11, 2023, to all current fourth grade students. Please check your U.S. Mail and if you don’t have your envelope by Friday please give the office a call.

During the month of October and November each of our grade four classes will attend a workshop at the South Shore Arts Center. Artist in residence, Patrice Kelley will introduce students to a 2-hour workshop on mixed media fiber geodes, tapestries, felted flowers, and more.

Holly Hill Farm was here last week and led our second and third grade students in a gardening lesson and some harvesting. Grade two students planted kale and harvested potatoes that were planted last year. Thank you to our cafeteria staff. Our second graders enjoyed roasted potatoes last week at lunch. Our third grade students had a great lesson on the “Three Sisters” and harvested carrots they planted last year as second graders. The carrots were abundant and will be served at lunch this week and sold at our farmstand (details below).

Center School Farmstand

Soft opening!

We are having a farm stand built to sell our farm fresh eggs and other items we harvest during the year. All proceeds from the farm stand will go to supplying feed for our chickens. There will be a table set up at the main entrance of the building closest to the auditorium. This week we will have eggs and carrots (fresh from the ground). We will use an honor system for making purchases and accept cash only. The farm stand will be open Wednesday 10:00 am to 4:00 pm.

Picture Retakes

Picture retakes will be done on Wednesday, November 1st. At that time we will also be taking class photos for all classrooms as we were not able to get this done on picture day in September.

PTA Volunteers

Thank you to all of the parents who signed up to volunteer throughout the year. We had over 155 volunteers sign up for multiple events to be held between now and June. We still need room parents for the following classrooms: Ms. Donahue, Ms. Hoffman, Mrs. Ford, and Mrs. Bryerton. If you are interested in being a room parent for one of these classrooms, please email Shannon Harmon at shannonharmon723@gmail.com
