A.L.I.C.E. Drill Update

Today we conducted an announced safety drill at approximately 9:05 am. The drill ended and all students had returned to the building by 9:20 am. At this time, all students and staff are following our daily schedule and beginning the 9:25 block.

A.L.I.C.E. is the emergency response that our teachers have been trained to use in the event of a threat during the school day. This emergency response can include staying in place, locking down, or evacuating, depending on the threat and the information we have at the time. The acronym of A.L.I.C.E. stands for Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, Evacuate.

Today our safety drill focused on alert, inform, and evacuate. Our goal was for teachers to evacuate through any/all exits, putting time and distance between their classroom and the building. This is different from our fire drill which follows one of three routes out of the classroom and gathers at the pavilion behind the school. Our goal for our students was to practice listening to the adult in charge and following the plan.

Following the safety drill, students had some questions for their teachers. In addition to classroom teachers, our guidance counselors, Mr. Wilson and I were available to answer questions as needed. We were pleased that students listened to an adult and followed the plan for today’s safety drill.

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out.

Warm regards,

Mrs. DeGrenier
