Center School News and Updates 9/26/23

Thank you to all who attended Curriculum Night. It was great to see so many families, get lots of CORIs completed, have time to visit the classroom, and hear about the curriculum and the plans each grade level has for the upcoming school year.

We are in the last days of our fall benchmark assessments in reading and math and those results will be shared with families in early October. This information gives us a baseline on how students are doing in reading and math; and also where to focus targeted instruction.

MCAS results were released last week and parent reports will be sent home in October for those who participated in the assessment last year. Upon the release of the MCAS results, Center School received recognition by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) for strong performance on MCAS. We were one of 66 schools out of 1751 in the Commonwealth, that received this recognition for demonstrating high achievement or strong growth under the state's accountability system, which takes into account MCAS scores and other measures, including chronic absenteeism and graduation rates. Accountability percentiles measure schools relative to other schools, while the criterion-referenced target percentage measures change from the prior year.  See the link to the Boston Globe article for more details. On Wednesday, September 27, 2023, Center School will be recognized at the School Committee meeting for being named as a ‘School of Recognition’ by DESE.  We are proud of our faculty and our students for all of the hard work put forth deserving of this recognition.

Classroom directories were distributed in all classrooms on Monday, September 25^th. 

Picture Retakes

Picture retakes will be done on Wednesday, November 1^st. At that time, we will also be doing class photos for all classrooms as we were not able to get this done on picture day in September.

PTA Reminders

• Center PTA meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, September 27^th, at 9:30 in the Center School cafeteria. All are welcome!
• Thursday night, September 28^th, please consider Dinner at “Sullivan’s” in Hanover between 6:00-8:00 pm, dine in, and ask for the blue room. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Hanover Public Schools.
