First Day of School

We want to thank you for a great first day of school and to let you know how much we enjoyed getting to know the students and see them explore their new school or grade.  They are a great group of kids and we are looking forward to an amazing year!

I want to turn my attention to the adults for the message tonight.  We are all part of a change process that is very exciting but also has raised questions about how things are done.  If at any time there are questions or procedures that are not clear, please let me know so that I can send out communication that will be helpful to you and probably many others who are thinking the same thing.  You are an important part of how we do business and we want to make sure that communication is high and stress is low.  I am including in this message a few questions that were raised today and the answers may be helpful to all If there is other information you need, please let us know.

Pickup-up

Pick-up notes are needed for any student who is not taking the bus home at the end of the day.   We then create a list of pick-up students for the day and have it ready for dismissal time for those on duty.  If you plan to pick up daily or on certain days each week and this will happen all year, you can send in one note now and we will log it in as a standing pick-up for your child.  If your child attends FACE, we have them listed to attend the after school program. Otherwise we assume all students without a note are taking their bus home from school.

Medications

Medications and doctor's orders do not carry over from school year to school year.  You must submit new doctor's orders annually and hand deliver any medications to the nurse. If you have medications that were not picked up at the end of school last June, please contact the nurse at the school and they will assist you.

If your child has an Individual Health Plan (IHP) the nurse will need it returned as soon as possible with your doctors signature so that we can safely care for your child's medical needs while they are at school.  The nurse shares current medical information with classroom teachers but it is always a good idea for you to share any medical concerns and allergies with your child's teacher too.

There are no restrictions on foods that students are allowed to bring to school.  We have safe seating in the cafeteria for all students so that everyone can enjoy their meal with friends and be safe at the same time.  Food is not allowed in the classrooms to further support our safety with food allergies.  Celebrations or projects that are done in school involving food are planned in conjunction with the nurse,  Mrs. Krall and the classroom teacher. All food related events are held in the cafeteria or outside.

We thank you for joining us for the open house on Tuesday and wish you a restful evening after the first day of school.  Please let me know if there is anything we can do to continue to build a smooth start to the school year.

Warm regards,
Mrs. Degrenier
Principal
