Hanover Middle School Incoming 5th Grade Letter to Parents

Hopefully this message finds your family healthy and safe during these challenging times.  My name is Daniel Birolini and I am the Principal of Hanover Middle School.  It is that time of year again when parents and students start to think about the 4th grade transition to Middle School.  Please let me start by saying that we have a talented staff who are phenomenal at annually welcoming the incoming 5th graders.  Most importantly, the students really enjoy their time and many great experiences here at HMS.

It is also the time of year that we start planning for our incoming students.  Over the next month, we will meet with the teachers and staff of the Center school, review the information provided by you, and begin the scheduling process for the 5th grade.  In early June, we will have a virtual orientation and a virtual live tour for our students as well as a parent information night.  Obviously this is not the ideal situation but it will make orienting our incoming HMS students and families possible in June. Both of these events as well as a professionally filmed virtual tour will be recorded and posted on our website.  The current plan is to have a second, in-person, parent night in August and student orientation in late August/early September.

Attached to this message, there are two additional pieces of information.  A video message from me (which includes the same information as this message) and a Google form that will allow you to tell us a little bit about your child as a person and a learner.  These forms are not mandatory but are extremely helpful in the placement of your child.

Incoming 5th grade students are provided choice in the curriculum in the area of music.  If students would like to take part in the HMS Band, they can elect to do so and select an instrument which they would like to study and play.  These choices and a letter from our HMS Band Director, Julie Thornell, are contained within the induction google form.

Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns at 781-871-1122 or by email dbirolini@hanoverschools.org.  Our HMS induction form can be found at https://tinyurl.com/HMS-Families-2020

I am really excited for the opportunity to get to know and work with your children.
