School News 1/3/19

Day two of one school, one building continues to go well!  We are really proud of all of our students as they have quickly adapted to the new routines and familiarized themselves with the new building. Even for those that have been at Center since September there are new halls to pass through now that the entire building (except the auditorium) is open to us.  I don't want to jinx things but lunches have gone smoothly as well.  A special thanks to our cafeteria staff, Mr. Wilson, and our lunchroom duty staff.  Merging two grade levels into one lunch in the cafeteria has been a piece of cake!  The lines are moving a little quicker each day.  We are short a few seats at our largest lunch and are awaiting an additional table.  For now, seating at the folding table with folding chairs isn't so bad!

The heat has been resolved in several classrooms throughout the building but we are still finding higher temperatures than we would like on the second floor.  Our contractor and maintenance department are working vigilantly to resolve this and progress has been noted this week.

The parent pick-up in the afternoon is the biggest difference that we have noticed in merging the two buildings.  Please expect a long car line and know that we will call student to come out for dismissal at 2:55 PM.  You may want to adjust the pick-up time from 2:50-3:05 PM (instead of 2:45-3:00 PM).  Anything you can do to help us load on the right side of the car is helpful.  Also, please watch the staff person on duty for direction to pull up or wait.  Your attention is appreciated.  For the safety of all, it is best not to back up traffic onto Silver Street. A staggered arrival is our best suggestion.

The new bus system of 10 buses arriving all at once has gone very well.  Five buses arrive in the front loop and five buses arrive via the back service road.  All buses park and shut off their engines.  Once all students are loaded onto all five buses in their area they are cued to leave.

For those students who load in the back of the school on the service road, they are crossing in front of the bus and loading.  Please know that the service gate is raised to let buses in and once the last bus has arrived the gate is lowered.  The same procedure is in place for departure and the gate to leave is raised once all five buses are loaded and ready to go.

Have a great evening,
Jane DeGrenier
