School News 12/21/18

What an exciting week and it isn't over yet!  We are very excited for Snow Bowl today and thank our PTA and all of our volunteers for putting this all together for us to enjoy such a fun day!  Thank you!

Parking for volunteers today is available in spaces in the front loop of Center or in spaces by entering the second driveway at Center and parking in any available spaces along the driveway and behind Center.  The second driveway off Silver Street is no long construction only. Sylvester parking is anywhere in the front of the building.

The weather today is not looking good, so we have booked buses to move Sylvester students back and forth so they don't get soaked while getting to their events at Center.

The move for students and staff from Sylvester into Center has begun.  Yesterday teachers had students bring their desk items and book boxes over to Center.  Students had time to see their new classroom, acclimate to their new hall, and see their lockers, etc.  It was like September all over again but the excitement and smiles from our students was infectious!  During the vacation week, the remainder of the boxes of supplies will be moved over and grade 3 and 4 students will return on January 2nd to Center School.

A very special thank you to our entire staff for all of their collaboration and support during the entire construction project and especially during these last months of packing and moving.  Many of our teachers have had to teach in a temporary space and pack or move at least once (or more) during the past 18 months.  This has all happened with a lot of hard work and great integrity to keep the teaching and learning happening throughout the entire process.  Not an easy task, but it is a tribute to the teachers at our school for making it happen and look easy.

SCORE will be moving this week as well and beginning January 2nd will be located in their new SCORE classroom at Center School in Room 1 (Formerly Mrs. Brown's Kindergarten Classroom).  Parents who drop off or pick up from SCORE will access the building right at the SCORE door.  You will enter the second driveway (after the main entrance) and drive to the back of the building and park anywhere along the behind the building near the gym.  You will see an entrance for SCORE and door buzzer for SCORE only. This is where you will drop off and pick up at this entrance.  There is plenty of parking and you can then exit back out the driveway to Silver Street.

We have finalized a bus and parent drop off pick-up plan for Center School that will begin on January 2nd.  I will be emailing that to you later today so you have it for the return from vacation.  We will plan for some small delays as we return and adjust to this new routine.  We will have a police detail on site for the week we return to ensure that all goes smoothly with our new traffic patterns.

It is a dream come true for me to have all of the students and staff in one building.  No more walking path, weather watching, or worrying about how to be in two places at once.  I can't wait for January 2nd and look forward to seeing our students and teachers enjoy all of the features of our brand new school. Have a very happy week and enjoy special time with family and friends.  Much peace and happiness to all of you for the New Year!
