School News 9/21/18

Thank you for your attendance at our Curriculum Night on Monday evening.  It was well attended and great to see so many families.  We launched our literacy initiative on Tuesday with the Teaching Learning Alliance and the enthusiasm and excitement from our teachers K-4 was overwhelming.  We will be getting more information out to you in the weeks ahead.

During the parent meeting at Curriculum Night we touched upon phase II of our construction process.  It came to my attention that there was an article in this weeks Mariner that included a summary of the next stages of the project and configuration that may have been confusing.  Please see my notes below to help us all stay informed with current information.  I will continue to communicate with you on progress as well as any changes.  Please let me know if you have any questions.

  • September 24-28th our specialist classrooms will be turned over and the teachers will begin to move in and set-up their new classrooms.
  • October 1st-instruction begins in the new specialist classrooms (Art, OT/PT, Music, IT, PE)
  • October 6th-October 9th paving, parking, and roadways completed at Center School.  Grounds closed to all traffic and staff.
  • November/December 2018 classrooms in the renovated section are turned over and our school community assesses an appropriate transition for Sylvester Grades 3 and 4 to move into their new spaces.
  • January 2019-June 2019 Center/Sylvester School, K-4 enjoys life under one roof with no walking between buildings, all staff and all students housed in one new building.  A dream come true!
  • September 2019 begins the new configuration of our elementary schools, district wide:  Center School will  house all elementary students in grades 2-4 and Cedar School will house all elementary students in PK-1.

As we move towards the reconfiguration of our district there will be more opportunity to plan together with all elementary parents, staff, and administration for the change.

Mrs.  Shea, our school nurse at Sylvester, will be out of the office for the next few weeks.  We will have health office coverage daily by substitutes that have worked with us in the past. Mrs.  Patricia Smith, the Nurse Leader will be in several times a week and will have oversight of the health office.  If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact the  health office or email Mrs. Smith at psmith@hanoverschools.org.

A special thank you to our PTA for their hospitality and support in the month of September.  We enjoyed a special lunch on our first day and a delicious breakfast the morning after Curriculum Night! We certainly have lots of great volunteers and some pretty wonderful cooks!  Thank you!

Enjoy the weekend,

Mrs. DeGrenier
Principal
