Hanover Middle School Washington D.C. Trip Medications Update for 8th Grade Parents/Guardians 3/1/23

The school district now requires the parent to provide a written physician’s order along with signed parent consent, if your child takes any prescription or over-the-counter medication that will need to be given at any time during the field trip. I have attached a copy of the form required for your convenience or you may submit a standard school medication order from your pediatrician's office, either in person or by fax to 781-871-8792

It is necessary that the parent or guardian hand deliver all medication to the school health office in the original prescription bottle or packaging, but containing only the number of pills that will be taken during the time of the field trip. A Doctor’s prescription or order IS required for all prescription and over-the-counter medications. Exceptions include Ibuprofen, Acetaminophen, Benadryl, Tums, Hydrocortisone, Bacitracin, and EpiPens. The health office maintains a copy of consent for these medications and they will be supplied by the school nurse and require no further documentation from you.

I will begin to accept medications between 7:15 am and 2:00 pm starting Monday, May 22, 2023, and ending Wednesday, May 31, 2023. Dropping off medications as early as possible is greatly appreciated, as I would like the opportunity to organize them prior to our field trip.

I have asked that you also provide your child’s cell phone number to ensure privacy in the event that they forget their scheduled medication administration.

Questions regarding any of the above or health concerns while your child is away, please call the health office at 781-871-1122, ext. 1,  or send an email to jcasey@hanoverschools.org

Sincerely,

Joelle A. Casey, RN, BSN, NCSN
