Student Council

Welcome to a new school year full of possibilities at HMS.  With the support of Hanover PTA, the HMS Student Council is a self-funded organization comprised of chosen students from grades 5-8. Student Council members apply for positions and sign contracts committing to volunteer their time to help make HMS the best school it can be.  Students work to organize, host, and raise funds for grade level events such as socials, dances, the Staff vs. Student Basketball Game, Turkey Trot, HMS Spelling Bee, and more.  They organize charitable fundraisers and food drives for the Hanover Food Pantry and other charities of their choosing.

In the past, we have sold tickets to upcoming events and the funds collected would pay for the expenses of that event. Unfortunately, this system makes it difficult to "plan ahead" since we often do not know headcounts until the day of the event and there are no funds "in the bank" to cover costs should attendance not be what we hope. It is our hope that securing the funds needed for events at the beginning of the school year will allow us to create a budget and  allow us to provide great social experiences for students at HMS. Last year, with the support of PTA and HMS families, we had great success with our event bracelet campaign and plan to continue with this plan moving forward. A $20 event bracelet will be available for each HMS student to purchase ensuring admission to the 2018-2019 grade level events. Bracelets will be available during grade level lunches the week of Stepember 17, 2018 and September 24, 2018. Purchasing the bracelet ensures admission to four grade level events (socials, dances, and the B-ball Battle) throughout the year. If you choose not to purchase the bracelet the cost of individual events will be $10 per event.  Checks can be made to HMS. Bracelets can also be purchased online through the Hanover Public Schools UniBank link.  Upon purchase, student names will be written in the bracelet binder to keep a record of purchases.   Remember to keep your bracelet in a safe place!  Students with bracelets will be admitted to events first.  If lost, a replacement may be purchased for $5 or the student will need to wait to check-in by name in the bracelet binder for each event.
