Start With Hello Week

We are excited to inform you that next week, September 24-28, 2018, your student will be participating in Start With Hello Week here at Hanover Middle School!

Start With Hello is a prevention program that teaches children and teens to be more socially inclusive and connected to each other. Start With Hello asks students, educators, parents and other community leaders who interact with children to take steps in class, the lunchroom, and/or other times in their day to be inclusive and connected.

The week at school will be filled with positive messages and activities of reaching out, kindness, and how it all starts with saying “Hello”.

We Need YOU! You can help foster inclusion and community at home! Some suggestions: Making an intentional effort to greet each other with hello and asking questions about each other’s day; During car rides or at dinner, challenging each other to use eye contact and truly listen to the person talking; Model best practices by saying hello to community members on the street and making conversations at stores and restaurants; Telling your child about a time that you reached out to someone in need. Finally, we encourage you to talk to your student about their experiences throughout the week.

We are looking forward to an amazing week with all of the students here at HMS!

Thank you,
Joel Barrett, Pauline Ward, Lauren Chebator, Megan Callahan, Suzanne Clasby, Christine Judge, and Lynne Kosak
