Fire Cadet Training Program for High School Students 12/28/22

Have you ever wanted to be a firefighter? Here is an opportunity for you.

The Hanover Fire Department has teamed up with the South Shore Technical High School to offer a Fire Cadet Training Program. This free course is your opportunity to see what it takes to be a firefighter. Participants will take part in classroom and practical evolutions that will provide familiarization and orientation to the fire service. Instructors are current firefighters and topics will include (but are not limited to) Fire Department Organization and Management; Fire Department Equipment; Apparatus and Facilities; Building Construction; Fire Protection Systems; Firefighting Personal Protective Equipment; Fire Extinguishers and Hose Lines; and Firefighting Ladders and Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA). The class will also include field trips including a day at the Massachusetts Firefighting Academy in Stow, MA. Participants will be provided with firefighting gear and equipment to become fully immersed in the working conditions and environment of a firefighter. The program will provide participants with CPR Training, FEMA Incident Command Training, and other life skills in fire safety. This class is perfect for anyone who is considering a career in the fire service. Participants will be expected to attend weekly classes and give 100% effort. The only question is – do you have what it takes?

This course will run for 8 weeks, from March 1st through April 26th. An orientation night in is scheduled for February 2023 (date TBD). Classes will run from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm each night and be held at the South Shore Technical High School.

This course is open to students in grades 11 and 12 at Hanover High School and South Shore Technical High School, only. Interested students will need parental permission and are asked to apply for consideration. The course is capped at 20 students.
