Hanover High School Graduation News + 6/2/21

As we seem to limp and lumber a bit towards the finish line of what’s been a tremendously taxing, yet incredibly successful year, the whirlwind of wild changes from earlier days seems to be dissipating.  The controlled chaos of calculating distances and corresponding contacts and close encounters… seems to be… well, calming.  Phew!

That said, many things are indeed coming to a close in the coming days.  Our last Advanced Placement exams – for instance – conclude this week, as well as MCAS and all other standardized testing.  Our Senior Awards and Scholarship Ceremonies have concluded, and we’ll be wrapping up graduation rehearsals Thursday morning.  The seniors will be ready for graduation this Friday, June 4th, at 6:30 pm.

Graduation Information

Speaking of graduation, please note the following information:

  • All graduates must report to the auditorium no later than 5:30 pm.  They are encouraged to carpool with other students, and they should park in the main student parking lot.
  • Graduates are NOT required to wear masks outdoors.  Guests and attendees, who are not fully vaccinated for COVID-19, are requested to wear a mask.
  • During the ceremony, graduates may walk across the stage individually and directly receive their diplomas.
  • Each graduate may invite up to six (6) guests, but all invited guests must be pre-registered using the following form:  https://forms.gle/j1PRzirAKsk6d9FdA
  • Only registered student guests may attend and will be seated in sections of six (6).
  • All HPS staff and faculty are invited to attend; however, since we need an accurate count for seating purposes, any faculty/staff planning to attend must pre-register using the attached form:  https://forms.gle/x9YwWDyZK6yXnhNeA
  • Parking lots will not open to the public until 5:15 pm, and gates to the turf field will not open until 5:45 pm.
  • We’ll need to keep the ceremony as brief as possible.
  • No food or drink permitted.
  • No communal gathering or reception before or after the event.
  • All graduates and attendees must exit school grounds immediately following the event.
  • Everyone has earned a nice graduation; therefore, all are required to enjoy it.  No exceptions!  ;)

These points are just a snapshot of the guidelines.  Here is the official guidance from DESE:  DESE K-12 Graduation Guidance

Underclassmen Scheduling

A quick note regarding underclassmen scheduling:

  • Our underclassmen scholarship and awards ceremony is scheduled for Thursday,  September 16, 2021, at 6:00 pm.  This event will include recognition of current grades 9 through 11.
  • The week of June 14, 2021, will consist of four (4) regularly scheduled days (Monday through Thursday).  As there will be no traditional final exams this year during this period of time, any final assessments for any courses will be administered and weighted at the discretion of the individual teacher/course and fully supported by the administration.  On Friday, June 18th, all classes will follow an abbreviated schedule, no lunches will be served, and we will dismiss at 11:00 am.

That’s it for now.  Be warm.  Be safe.
