Hanover High School Graduation Update 6/4/21

As of this moment, we are planning to hold graduation exercises…outdoors … on time … promptly at 6:30 pm.  In the event that we have NO rain, (which is a possibility), we will remain wonderfully dry.  That’s as simple as it gets.

However, here’s what’s happening if the skies open up:

  1. If we are outside and showers arrive (or gentle rain), we stay the course and press on.  Sometimes you get soaked on Splash Mountain, sometimes you don’t; either way, you have fun.  We can endure a little water, but the diplomas cannot.  We’ll keep the diplomas covered and use “a prop” diploma for the ceremony.  We’ll have the actual diplomas available for pick up next week in the main office.
  2. If we are outside and heavy rain greets us, (but there is an end in sight), we will take a “rain delay” – similar to the Red Sox putting the tarp on the field.  In this case, we’ll go inside to let it pass.  Lightning – we leave the field immediately.  In this scenario, we’ll ask that everyone make their way into the school.  We will have the gym, the auditorium, the Media Center, and the café open for your “convenience.”  When the storm passes, we will make our way back outside and finish the ceremony.  It’ll be fun.
  3. If by 2:00/3:00 pm, it becomes clear that any rain will subside right around 6:30 pm, then I’ll push off the official start time to 7:00 pm or 7:30 pm, and notify everyone early enough to make adjustments.
  4. If we need to postpone the evening, then we’ll move graduation to tomorrow morning – Saturday, June 5th at 9:00 am.
  5. In no scenario will we be having graduation indoors.

That’s it for now.  Stay tuned for further information.  Stay dry.  Stay safe.
