Hanover High School Information for Parents of Seniors 4/27/22

On Monday, April 25, 2022, I met with the Class of 2022 to discuss details that will be important as they enter the final weeks of their Senior year. As always, we expect our Seniors to be on their best behavior.

While this is a very exciting and memorable time in your child’s life, I am obligated to address some very important policies and procedures with you, as I did with your children. Please review the Hanover High School Student Handbook and specifically the Graduation Policy on page 65. Below are some important components of the policy:

  • Graduation is a privilege, not a right. The Principal has the prerogative to award the diploma at a later date.
  • No disruption of the school will be tolerated at any time. Failure to comply can result in nonparticipation in Graduation and withholding of the diploma until after Graduation.
  • The Principal has the right to refuse a student’s participation in the Graduation ceremonies and to withhold awarding of a diploma on Graduation day for reasons including, but not limited to, the six reasons listed in the Graduation policy.

I am hopeful that you will review these policies with your child so we can all enjoy a wonderful conclusion to their educational journey through Hanover Public Schools!

A Senior Class Schedule of Events was sent out a few weeks ago. This is a quick review:

  • The Senior Prom is tomorrow night at Granite Links Golf Course in Quincy. The busses will leave the high school at 5:30 pm. As such, the red carpet will begin at 4:30 pm. Please do your best to arrive at 4:30 pm and have your photo taken. Finally, please be aware that the administration has kindly scheduled an early release day (12:30 pm) on April 28th. Students are REQUIRED to be in school that day and to stay until dismissal. Please do not make plans to be dismissed early.
  • Our annual Senior Academic and Scholarship Awards Ceremony will be held on Thursday, May 26th. Parents of students who are receiving a scholarship or award will receive a separate invitation allowing you to plan accordingly. Invited students and their guests (up to 2 people) should report to the Auditorium at 8:15 am. At the conclusion of the ceremony, a light breakfast reception will be held in the cafeteria.
  • Graduation rehearsals will be on Wednesday, June 1st, and Thursday, June 2nd. These are required and mandatory days of attendance. Students should report to the auditorium no later than 9:00 am on these rehearsal dates.

As a reminder, any and all Senior debt must be resolved by Friday, May 27th. If you are uncertain of any debt, please come to the main office beginning the week of May 9th. Students who do not clear up their debt will not be able to receive their caps and gowns. Debt includes any unserved detentions, Chromebook returns, library books, money for lost or damaged textbooks, and money owed for other school items.

We look forward to seeing you at our Graduation ceremony on Friday, June 3rd, at 6:30 pm. Graduates must report to the Auditorium at 5:30 pm. Currently, Graduation is scheduled outside on the Harry Gerrish Memorial Field. Each graduate will be allowed to have no more than 6 guests, and seating is arranged as such. Inclement weather will move us inside the gym and limit each Senior to four tickets which will be handed out with caps and gowns.

I draw your attention to our Student Handbook, which states in the Student Records section, “Graduating Seniors will receive their Temporary Records with their caps and gowns during Senior Week. This will include their Guidance records.” Please be sure to keep these records with other important family documents as this is the only copy, and this is Hanover High School’s method of disposing of the documents in accordance with 603 CMR 23.06(3). “Special Education records will be transferred to the Pupil Personnel Director’s office at the Salmond School where they will be maintained for seven (7) years.”

I have truly enjoyed my first year as Principal of Hanover High School, and I look forward to many more. The entire HHS administration, faculty, and staff wish to congratulate you and your child on this joyous occasion.

If you have questions, concerns, or just need more information, please don’t hesitate to call 781-878-5450 or email us.

Sincerely,

Matthew Mattos
Principal
