Hanover High School News 12/7/20

I have a few quick, important notices for you.

FERPA Disclosure

Under the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), Hanover Public Schools may disclose appropriately designated “directory information” about your student such as name, awards, images, sports participation, college acceptances, etc.  Directory information is generally not considered harmful or an invasion of privacy.  Military recruiters are usually provided with directory information that includes student name, address, and telephone number.  If you do not want the Hanover Public Schools to disclose directory information about your son or daughter, you are within your rights to withhold permission or at any time change your position.  If you wish to withhold permission, please put your request in writing no later than Friday, December 11th to Kathy Gallagher at kgallagher@hanoverschools.org.

Signs of Suicide Prevention Program (SOS)

Over the next two weeks during our Flex Block periods, our adjustment counselors will be educating 11th and 12th-grade students on suicide prevention and the symptoms of depression.  These lessons will begin Thursday, December 10th

The Signs of Suicide Prevention Program is a universal, school-based depression awareness and suicide prevention program for high school students.  This is a sensitive topic; therefore, if students need access to guidance following their presentation or choose to opt-out of the presentation, they are encouraged to go to the guidance office.

For more information, please visit: SOS Signs of Suicide Middle School and High School Prevention Programs

Additionally, I was asked to share the following site in terms of insights and resources when working within our own families.  It's excellent: You know your child better than anyone. But even you have a few questions

Senior Parents

I want to let you know that a link has been sent to your child requesting their graduation cap and gown size, as well as the proper name that should appear on their diploma.  Yes, it seems a bit early for this, but we feel it is best to get the information to our vendor sooner rather than later.  The deadline for this information is Friday, December 11th.  Should you have any questions regarding this procedure, please feel free to email Kathy Gallagher at kgallagher@hanoverschools.org.

Mascot

We’ve received some wonderful ideas and artistic renderings of logos for all six of our finalists.  Our Mascot Committee will be meeting this week to narrow down our choices and prepare to send the results back out to the community for feedback.  I’ll keep you posted!

That’s it for now.  Be warm.  Be safe.
