Back to School 2020-2021

Congratulations on our first, complete hybrid-learning cycle.  (That’s a lot of clunky words meaning simply, “first week of school”)  Nevertheless, excellent job all around, really.  Thank you!

Please allow me a minute to send out a special, well-deserved thank you to all of our custodians and all of our food services staff.  Working with all of you these past few weeks has been nothing short of phenomenal.  All of us recognize the incredible job you’ve done and continue to do; nevertheless, it necessitates a reiteration of deep, deep appreciation.  In particular, I don’t think anyone could’ve worked harder, smarter, and even better than all of you did over these past few weeks.  Inspiring, to say the least.  Thank you!

Today marks the start of our second cycle, and I have a few important updates and reminders

  • For those students with “every-other-day” electives, please remember that – in our current model – those electives now meet every-other-week, and this week is a “B” cycle.  We will remain in this cycle until end-of-day next Tuesday.
  • For now, Flex-Block will continue to meet as the 1st block every Thursday and Monday.  Since this is our second week/cycle, you are going to your 2nd period class with your 2nd period teacher for Flex-Block – effective, tomorrow morning.
  • We are welcoming back our Gold Cohort students in-person this Thursday.  For Blue Cohort students learning remotely these next 2 days, your teachers have communicated expectations concerning attendance, lessons, participation, etc.
  • For obvious reasons, we are not using any paper passes or lanyards this year to account for students moving among approved areas of the building.  Instead, we have instituted a digital-pass system incorporating the use of your cellphone and posted QR Codes associated with all building locations.  Our cellphone policy remains the same: The use of any electronic device (cellphones, tablets, etc.) is not permitted during the school day without the permission of an administrator or teacher.  Teachers require…phones to be turned off, placed in backpacks, and stored in a designated area of the classroom.  However, if a request to leave the room is approved, students may access their phones.  Using the camera feature on the phone, students will scan the corresponding QR Codes when leaving the room, arriving at destination, and again upon returning to the room.

This pass system not only provides a healthier alternative to the use of paper but also it documents a student’s location and time throughout the building.  This feature could present as beneficial in the event contact-tracing becomes necessary.

That’s it for now.  Be warm.  Be safe.
