Hanover High School Opening Day News and Updates 8/31/23

Reminders

Just a few reminders as we get closer to Opening Day on Tuesday, September 5, 2023:

  • The drop-off area in the front of the building is always very busy during the first days of school. Therefore, parents/guardians may want to drop their child off early to avoid the late rush. All students should be in the building before 7:45 am.
  • All early arriving students may gather in the cafeteria.
  • On the 7:55 am bell, all students (except seniors) should report to their assigned homerooms. Please know that homeroom lists will be posted throughout the building. Seniors should report directly to the auditorium for their class assembly. Other classes will be called down for their respective class assemblies shortly thereafter. Class assemblies are where students hear direct messages from HHS administration, guidance counselors and student support staff regarding school policies, procedures, and expectations for the upcoming school year.
  • Any student planning to drive to HHS who has not already picked up a parking tag, please stop in the main office during the first week of school with the required paperwork. You need to bring in your completed parking registration form and your car registration and license.

Arriving by Bus

Bus information will be sent out in the next few days after Ingle Bus finalizes the routes. Please contact Catie Leahy at 781-878-7404 if you have any questions.

Dismissal and Pickup

Please review the following from School Resource Officer John Voelkel:

  • No access to the main driveway between 2:00-2:30 pm.
  • The main driveway will open for pickups at 2:30 pm.
  • Do not idle/wait/queue on Cedar Street before 2:30 pm.
  • Be considerate of neighbors. Do not park in or block their driveways.
  • If you need to dismiss a student between 2:00-2:30 pm, use Cedar Drive entrance.
  • When entering the main driveway, utilize both lanes of traffic and follow the traffic pattern.
  • Pull as far forward as possible when picking up your student.
  • Do not utilize the rear of the school for pickup. This area is designated for school van pickups.
  • Student drivers in the student lot will exit right out of the student lot and right onto Cedar Drive.

The Hanover Police Department will monitor the area during dismissal at different times throughout the school year. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation.

Chromebooks

Student laptops have become a vital classroom resource, and it is our expectation that all students have a fully charged device and charging cord with them every day. If a student has their own device, we encourage them to use it. To aid our tech department in troubleshooting, we ask all parents and guardians to complete a brief survey about their student's personal devices. For students who do not have a laptop, we have a limited supply of Chromebooks that can be loaned out for the year. If your student needs a loan, please indicate so in the survey. In addition, please read and sign the contract. Your student should bring the completed contract to the HHS library to receive his or her device. If you have any questions, please contact HHS librarian Sue McHugh at 781-878-5450 or smchugh@hanoverschools.org.

Class Schedules

The guidance department has still been working on class changes. Please know that finalized class schedules for all students will be available Friday evening at 6:00 pm. Any changes made after that date and time, if needed, will be emailed directly to the student and parent/guardian. Please ask your student to review their schedule as a few changes have been made. To schedule an appointment with their guidance counselor, students should see Mrs. Doherty in the guidance office or email her at bdoherty@hanoverschools.org.

Hanover PTA

HHS is extremely proud of our affiliation with the HPTA, as they sponsor many events that heighten the culture and climate of our building for both students and staff. In this vein, we ask that all parents/guardians please read the attached “One Time Donation Letter.” We hope you will support the HPTA, which supports Hawk Nation!

Thank you!
