Hanover High School Opening Information from Hawk Nation! 8/18/21

Welcome to Hawk Nation for the 2021-2022 school year! I am Matthew Mattos, and I am looking forward to my first year as Principal at Hanover High School. The faculty and staff of HHS are excited about your family’s involvement in all aspects of our school community this year. Academic achievement continues to be our number one priority. We are committed to instruction and student learning for all, with the ultimate goal of a successful post-graduation plan for every child. Our expectation is that all students will align themselves with our HHS Mission Statement, Core Values and Beliefs, and Learning Expectations.

In addition to high expectations for elevated academic achievement, I have a personal affinity for extracurricular activities. I will be encouraging every student at HHS to be connected to our school through membership in our extracurricular offerings, as I truly believe “A Connected Student is a Better Student.” We will encourage all students to be a part of our academic support programs, clubs, and organizations. We truly feel that a student who participates in all that HHS has to offer will become an integral part of the enthusiastic, positive and respectful climate that exists at Hanover High School.

As we begin the new school year, there are several items of interest. Please note the following important dates on your calendar. Also, please check the Athletics link on the high school website for the latest HHS athletics information and calendar: www.hanoverschools.org/highschool/athletics

First Day of School

Thursday, September 2nd
7:55 a.m., promptly

This year, students are beginning school on Thursday, September 2nd. The hours of the high school are from 7:55 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. Early release hours are from 7:55 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.

Students will be given various forms to be brought home, filled out, and signed by their parent/guardian and the student. It is strongly encouraged to have your child return these forms the next day in homeroom so that the Main Office will have the most accurate and current family information.

Class Meetings

Thursday, September 2nd

Freshmen, sophomores, and juniors must be in their assigned homerooms by the 7:55 a.m. bell. Seniors will report to the auditorium for a Class meeting as soon as they enter the building. Throughout the morning, every grade level will be called to the auditorium to participate in Class meetings to go over school policies, procedures, and expectations.

Picture Day

Tuesday, September 7th

Tuesday, September 10th is Picture Day. All students should dress nicely, and all students are expected to get their photos taken. They will systematically be called down to the gym for these pictures. Please note, that not only are these photos used for the Yearbook but they will also be utilized for their student ID card.

Curriculum Night

Thursday, September 30th
6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.

Curriculum Night will begin promptly at 6:00 p.m. and end at 8:00 p.m. There will be a short presentation by the Administration at 6:00 p.m. in the auditorium. Parents will follow their child’s “A” schedule beginning at 6:30 p.m.

SAT Registration and PSATs

The registration deadline for the October 2nd SAT is September 3rd. The registration deadline for the November 6th SAT is October 8th. Students may register for the SATs by going to www.collegeboard.org. The PSATs will be administered at Hanover High School for all sophomores and juniors on Wednesday, October 13th during the school day. Further information will follow.

Student Manual

Students are responsible to review and be aware of all information in the Student Manual and Code of Conduct 2021 – 2022. Before the first day of school, I will be sending a link to the Hanover High School Code of Conduct for you to carefully review with your child. On the first day of school, students will be asked to sign a sheet acknowledging review of the Code of Conduct. Please take time to review this important information with your child.

Student Parking

We will be assigning student parking spots through a random, virtual lottery. Seniors will be given priority, followed by juniors, then sophomores in the spring. Students must present their license and car registration when picking up your vehicle tag in the front office.

Your first step will be to fill out a form with your vehicle's information.

Once you have completed this form you will be entered into the virtual lottery which will be “drawn” on August 27th.

Remember driving to school is a privilege, not a right. Therefore, please drive safely and obey the rules and regulations listed below:

  • Students must park in their assigned parking space. Students may not park in the Faculty parking lot in the back of the school building or in the Maintenance Lot.
  • Students must operate a motorized vehicle in a safe manner on school property. A speed limit of 5 miles per hour will be enforced on school grounds.
  • Students must not be in the parking lots, or in, on, or around an automobile during school hours without permission from the Principal or Assistant Principal.
  • Students are subject to Police ticketing for illegal parking.

Violations of this policy can result in the loss of parking privileges and disciplinary consequences in accordance with the Student Manual.

We look forward to the start of this school year and working cooperatively with the families of our students to assist us with developing highly successful high school graduates! I’d like to invite you for a “Meet and Greet” with me on Thursday, August 26th from 8:00 - 10:00 a.m. Please stop by for a cup of coffee and say hello!

On behalf of our staff, I thank you for your continued support of Hanover High School. Welcome Back to Hawk Nation!

Very truly yours,

Matthew Mattos
Principal
