Hanover High School Traffic Update 12/9/20

As you know, traffic around Cedar School and Hanover High School can cluster and congest at times, presenting potentially unsafe situations especially during afternoon pick-up from both schools.  We’re working on solutions, and we’ll need your cooperation regarding an initial, simple adjustment.

It’s extremely important that all of us adhere – at all times – to the expected flow of traffic for student drop-off and pick-up.  The expectations are similar in both situations.  As you see from the blue arrows on the attached diagram, there are two lanes of traffic coming down our main drive.  Here are the scenarios:

  • For drop off, if you’re in the left lane, you turn left just after the student parking lot on the left.  Then, you proceed all the way down to the red line, and then drop-off student(s).  For pick-up, please proceed all the way down to the red line, and then wait there for students to dismiss.
  • For drop off, if you are in the right lane, you turn left just before the school.  Then, you proceed all the way down to the first red line, and then drop-off student(s).  For pick-up, please proceed all the way down to the second red line, and then wait there for students to dismiss.
  • In every instance, please proceed all the way down to the corresponding red line.

All traffic should adhere to the u-shaped driveway, traveling in front of the school and returning back out to Cedar Street.  No one should be turning right towards Cedar Drive.

We are stressing the red lines for safety reasons.  Vehicles, for instance, cannot be backed up onto Cedar Street while waiting for pick-up.  It’s too dangerous.  Proceeding further into the parking lot – all the way down to the furthest red lines – at pick-up will keep over-flow off of Cedar Street.  If you’re prevented from entering the parking lot at pick-up, we ask that you continue down Cedar and loop back around to avoid clustering and congestion on Cedar Street.

Your cooperation is deeply appreciated.  Thank you!  It is our expectation that these small changes will help with traffic flow in the afternoon. We will continue to work with our bus company and the Hanover Police Department and will make further modifications as necessary.
