A Grateful Farewell to Chief Sweeney and Chief Blanchard 12/31/21

Hanover Chiefs

At midnight tonight, two exceptional leaders will retire from their positions as Hanover’s Police Chief and Fire Chief.  Police Chief Walter Sweeney Jr. and Fire Chief Jeffrey Blanchard dedicated their professional lives to protect and serve our community with integrity, honor, courage, and loyalty to the citizens of Hanover.

Chief Sweeney and Chief Blanchard served their respective departments for over 40 years, and culminated their careers as Chief for over a decade.  They both demonstrated an unwavering commitment to the Hanover Public Schools and the safety and academic success of our students.  They believed in the empowerment and opportunity that education affords children of all abilities, and the essential role of public schools to support our democracy and the freedom our nation provides to each of us.  Words cannot adequately express our gratitude for all they have done to support our students, staff members, and families.  We wish both of these exceptional leaders many healthy and rewarding years of retirement, and we thank their families for all of the sacrifices they have made over the years to support their work.

We are excited to welcome two well-known, experienced, and dedicated leaders who will continue the tradition of excellence at the HPD and HFD.  Please join us in congratulating incoming Fire Chief, Jason Cavallaro and incoming Police Chief, Timothy Kane.  Both of them have worked closely alongside our leadership team for years to provide support for all areas of health, safety, traffic, weather and power issues, and school security.  They have a proven commitment to the well-being of our students, and we are very pleased that they have been selected for these prestigious positions.  We look forward to many years of successful partnership with Chief Cavallaro and Chief Kane.

Happy New Year, Hanover!

Sincerely,

Matt Ferron
Superintendent
