Hanover Public Schools College Pride Day Reminder and Solar Eclipse Information 4/7/24

Hanover H

Solar Eclipse Safety

As many of you may be aware, a total solar eclipse will be visible on Monday, April 8, 2024. The eclipse is forecasted to begin in our area at approximately 2:16 PM and will last about two and a half hours until 4:39 PM.

The Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) recommends that we notify students that they should not look directly at the solar eclipse without eye protection. We will inform students of this guidance at all our schools on the morning of the eclipse, and I’m sure many of you have already provided that guidance to your children.

The solar eclipse will begin around dismissal for all of our schools - especially Cedar and Center - and we will remind all students of the dangers of viewing the eclipse without proper eye protection on their way home. No outdoor sports, per the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association (MIAA) Sports Medicine Committee guidance, will take place until the eclipse has passed.

Thank you, and we hope you are able to enjoy this special event.

College Pride Day Reminder

Oh, the places you'll go!

This is a reminder that Hanover Public Schools College Pride Day will be held tomorrow, Monday, April 8, 2024. This is a great opportunity to dust off your old sweatshirts, beanies, rugby shirts, and pennants from your alma mater(s), trade schools, military, etc., and wear the colors proudly that day as a symbol of the importance of life-long learning and post-secondary education!

For several years, we have inspired our students to look to higher education beyond graduation from Hanover High School by showing our spirit on "College Pride Day." We are all part of a proud learning community that has accomplished much beyond our high school days, and it is time to once again share that pride with our students.

Please join me on Monday, April 8, 2024, for "College Pride Day" and again model our college pride for our students from Pre-Kindergarten to our Senior Class of 2024. Our students will also be encouraged to join in! Be creative and have fun!

Oh, the places we've been!

Respectfully,

Matt Ferron
Superintendent
