Hanover Public Schools Important Storm Update 12/18/23

Hanover H

Thank you for your patience and understanding today as we work to navigate the challenges of the storm.  We are expecting the roads to be cleared and passable tomorrow morning, and we are hopeful for business as usual in our schools.

As of this message, the only school without power is Center School, and we will be in contact with National Grid overnight to monitor progress on power restoration.  Center School was able to operate today under generator power for essential functions, and we want to thank our staff and students for their flexibility and patience - they did a great job and we are very proud of them.  We also need to thank the Hanover Police, Fire, and Public Works Departments, along with Ingle Bus Company, for prioritizing student safety.

For the next several days, tree branches and wires will be unstable in many places.  Please use caution and be aware of the surroundings at bus stops and while driving.  We know that many of you are without power, and some of you have sustained damage to your homes and property.  If we can assist your student or your family in any way - please contact your student’s principal.  Parents and Guardians always have the option to keep students at home if safety is a concern.  Our school administrators will be flexible with students and families experiencing difficulties as a result of the storm.

Important message about Center School:  If power is not restored at Center School by morning, we may still open on our normal timeline as long as there is some reasonable assurance from National Grid that power restoration is likely to occur early in the day.  If the power is expected to be out for the entire day at Center School, then we will likely close Center only.  That is a decision that will not be made until the early morning, but we are hoping to open at our normal time.

If any changes to our normal routines need to be made for tomorrow, you will be notified by 6:30 am via email, social media, and our website

Please have a safe and restful evening.

Sincerely,

Matt Ferron
Superintendent of Schools
