Happy Holidays 2022

Happy Holidays

On behalf of all of us at Hanover Public Schools, we wish you and your family a healthy, peaceful, and joyful holiday season. 2022 was a year of transition from the challenges of the past three years, and our students and staff have worked together, and worked hard, to adjust to the changes in education, commerce, and human interaction. We are far closer to “normalcy” as this year ends than when it began, and we are moving forward with hope and enthusiasm for all that is ahead of us.

This was a year of great accomplishments in our classrooms, on the stage, and notably on fields, ice, and courts. The class of 2022 walked across the stage with their diplomas and headed off to the next exciting chapters of their lives as we welcomed new families and students in Pre-K and Kindergarten. In our history, it is unlikely that a generation of students, just 12 years apart, will have such vastly different experiences during their time in school. Interactive technology as we currently use it barely existed 12 years ago, and now the devices that we carry influence every aspect of our lives. As we adjust to this evolution as adults, our children will grow and learn in an environment supported by artificial intelligence, a culture of inclusion, and a completely different worldview on careers, the workplace, and interpersonal connections. Their experience will be different, but they will be OK. They will play, they will laugh, they will be curious, and they will be loved. And they will soar and succeed without limits because this school community prioritizes not only education but also the experience of being a child in a safe and supportive town for kids of all abilities and interests. That will not change.

Hanover is a community that supports one another unconditionally. During this season, the generosity, grace, and acts of kindness that we see on a daily basis are inspiring. Our children see it, they learn from it, and they are part of it. These are the lessons that they cannot learn from TikTok, YouTube, and Snapchat. This is the real stuff, and our community models empathy, compassion, and generosity for our neighbors in need in ways that our children will carry forward, and that is something we should cherish and be proud of.

We wish all of you the joys, blessings, and magic of this season. May you see these hectic days ahead through the eyes of a child and remember how much excitement and happiness they feel during the holidays. May you also find time for peace and reflection during this time of faith, hope, and grace. Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, Happy Kwanza, and Happy New Year! However you celebrate, please take the time to remind those you love how much they mean to you. We are all in this together, and we look forward to 2023 with great optimism and anticipation.

Sincerely,

Matt Ferron
